Gimme' That Expensive Spread
Sad news from Roseville, CA, where Sammy’s Rockin’ Island Bar and Grill will close after a mere five months of business. The grill, owned by Sammy ‘The Red Rocker’ Hagar, was a “major part of Roseville’s Downtown Specific Plan”. After the restaurant closes it’s believed Hagar will redirect his focus to making terrible music, while the town of Roseville promises this one setback will not deter it from centering future downtown revitalization plans around projects owned by butt rockers.

ReplyDeleteAlas, they seem to have already removed the online menu. I was keen to read the list of food and drinks I wouldn't order.
Good news! The menu from the Cleveland Airport location is online, everything on it is rockin' Sammy-tastic!
DeleteSammy was mas popular when I resided in Texas, many years ago. I could never understand the attraction, but he did do us the favor of replacing David Lee Roth as the VanHalend singer-in-residence...thus sparing us many years of Mr. Roth's unique vocal stylings. Because of that, Sammy is OK in my book, no matter how bad his restaurant may have been.
ReplyDeleteI can't knock DLR because he's an aficionado of minstrelsy and because he recorded the classic Ladies' Nite In Buffalo?. This amusing poem references him.
DeleteThe poem lacks rhythm, I think, but the bit about the multitude of croaking Dylans is spot on. DLR actually sounds pretty good in "Ladies Night", certainly better than Dylan , who really is croaking these days (cigarettes, I suppose). And DLR has better chest hair than both Dylan and Maria Callas.
ReplyDeleteThis doesn't make me a fan, though. I will never forgive Roth for "Beautiful Girls."
His crimes are many, but in degree never equal the atrocity that Hagar's lyrics to 'Red' are.
